The Building Industry's Environmental Impact

The building industry has a profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health and productivity.  In the United States, buildings account for:

-36% of total energy use
-65%
of electricity

consumption
-30%
of waste output

136 million tons annually
-30%
of greenhouse gas

emissions
-30%
of raw materials use

The construction of a typical, single-family home in the United States produces between two and four tons of debris, In the home construction industry:

-80% of this waste has
  recycling potential
-24%
of solid waste in
  municipal landfills is
  construction and demolition
  (C&D) debris
-70-80%
of the total C&D
  waste generated is from
  wood, gypsum board
  (drywall) and corrugated
  cardboard

Environmental Programs

PDG Domus cares about the environment, that's why we've developed an innovative manufacturing system which utilizes recyclable materials. We've established a comprehensive program for recycling Domus homes once they've reached the end of productive use.

PDG Domus Healthy Home

PDG Domus is an leader in the field of healthy home design and engineering. This ensures the air quality within a Domus home is of the purest and healthiest quality.  Since a Domus home is tightly constructed it allows more efficient external/internal air exchange within your home. In addition, a Domus home uses only inorganic materials in construction so health hazards from cement dust, decaying wood, organic decaying materials, or airborne molds from damp foundation walls are eliminated.  We understand that geographical locations influence air quality and therefore we have numerous air filtration options to  accommodate geographical conditions or a special health need. A HealthyHome™ certification is included with every Domus home.

PDG Domus Earth Stewardship Program

All homes have a life cycle, whether it’s replaced by a new development or badly-damaged by natural disasters.  We at PDG Domus have a recycling plan in place for PDG Domus homes that have reached the end of usefulness.  The average expected life span of a PDG Domus home is 150 years, much longer given the proper care. However, in the event that a home is no longer useful it can be recycled by PDG Domus in a process that contributes no waste or contamination to the earth. The process involves returning the frames to the steel mill for recycling and processing the lamination and insulation materials into inert fillers in other PDG Domus home production processes. House recycling can be arranged by simply contacting the nearest PDG Domus representative for pick-up and delivery information.
